Allison - You remind me that I need to try to step outside my own educational history, one that was remarkably positive and nourishing, and learn about the experiences of others. I do know that many kids are bored and unengaged and that this needs to change. I too wonder what that "extreme revolution" would entail?

Oh wow, I could go on about this for ages... Like you, I don't know too much about homeschooling or unschooling. What I do know, though, is that kids are definitely stifled and bored to tears in classrooms every day. I also know that there are thousands of wonderful, gifted, caring teachers who are just as frustrated as Babauta. Why not put them in charge, loosen up the curricula and standards? Give them more freedom (and more money and resources) to teach, guide, and help these kids learn and grow? What kind of extreme revolution would allow that to happen?
