Two Things. Two Years. Two Words.

“ Two things awe me most, the starry sky above me and the moral law within me.”
Immanuel Kant
I am not quite sharp enough these days (or, let’s be honest, ever) to fully understand Kant, but I do love these words and the ideas they seem to convey. The idea of being awed by something, something brilliant and inscrutable, that looms above, and beyond reach. The idea of being awed by something, something brilliant and inscrutable, that looms within, and beyond reach.
The starry sky. The moral law. The infinite love. The rich confusion. The tangled conversation. The echoing question. The elusive answer.
The good life.
Two more things that awe me? The past two years. Years in which I have loved and hurt and opened and asked. Years in which I have come here, over and over, and told stories of self.
Yesterday? It was April 10th. And it wasn’t just any old April 10th or any old Sunday.
It was my two year blog anniversary.
This place that has added so much to my life has been in existence for two whole years. And though I am technically taking a little time, I had to come here, to my safe place, my place of self, to honor this milestone. Because, yes, it’s a milestone and I’m happy and honored and humbled. I’m proud and optimistic.
And, yes, awed.
Years. They are things, too. Wonderful things. Things that collect in the corners of our complicated lives. Things to note and to celebrate.
Two years. So hard to believe. So amazing to say.
Two words. Two important and deserved words, words I must utter to all of you. For being here. For being you. For encouraging me to be here. For encouraging me to be Me.
For reading my words.
Thank you.

In life, what awes you most? Is two years long or short when it comes to living? To blogging? Do you miss me? ![]()

Two more words. Our pleasure.
I’ll echo BLW’s sentiment. Congrats to you and happy anniversary.
Happy blog anniversary. I have loved every minute here sharing the parts of your life that inspire you and move you to write.
I hope all is well and thank you for sharing.
happy anniversary ILI… and many more…
xo friend.
Congrats – definitely an anniversary worth celebrating. Hope you are doing well!
Happy Blogiversary!
Thank you and happy anniversary – cheers to many more years!
Happy blogday! I love that narratives unfold on blogs and it has been fun to read about you finishing your book, going through pregnancy and welcoming a new little baby into your family:)
I love coming to your blog! It makes my day! So Happy Anniversary!
happy anniversary.
two years is everything and nothing, i think. time is our way of grasping, of ordering chaos and offering ourselves linearity. and yet, time also contains the stuff our lives are made of–each minuscule moment a breath, a layering of texture. time is a way of keeping the beat, perhaps.
“out of the crooked timber of humanity no straight thing was ever made”-kant
here’s to many more years of wondering and wandering, of living and noting and questioning.
Happy blogiversary. It has been a pleasure. I think that you’ll enjoy looking back on these posts one day- especially those regarding the children.
It is a lot of fun seeing how far everyone has come.
Congratulations on 2 years!!! I love reading your blog!
I hope you are doing well mama, and getting (trying) to get some sleep!!!
Aww, happy blogoversary! I’m so happy to have discovered your corner of the world and read your thoughts (and amazing book!); your posts inspire me daily and get me thinking about my own life, which is always a welcome pleasure. Hope you’re enjoying your time with the little ones — we look forward to your regular return! xo
Happy, happy Bloggiversary to you! Two years… it goes by so fast. Of course you are missed- but you’ll return with a bounty of words and thoughts when it’s time.
Thank you, Aidan. For writing these words. I haven’t been here for two years, but I love it here. Happy blogoversary!
Happy Happy Anniversary, ILI, and may you enjoy many many more. xo BB
Happy Blogoversary (a day late!)
Isn’t it amazing how two years can go by in a blink, but at the same time, so much growth occurs? It’s good to stop every so often and take it in. If we love things, and put our best efforts into them, they grow- whether it’s literal seed planted or a mental one, the way a family like yours grows in members (and their sizes) and as you’ve gone from words in cyberspace to a community of exchanging ideas.
Congrats, Aidan! Now go get some rest
Happy Belated Blogoversary! Enjoy your words. Miss them, but completely understand why you have to pause. Relish your moments with your family.
What awes me? That two of my boys can now ski faster than me. That my 15yo just got his learner’s permit, is a full foot taller than me and will be off to college in two blinks of an eye. That picture books are a thing of the past, as are bottles, car seats and teething.
And yes, I miss you. I am so behind on my reading but your blog, with a few choice others, continue to be looked for.
Happy 2 years! May there be many more
I am definitely awed by time. How fast it disappears but also how wonderful a gift it is when you have a lot of it. Congratulations on your two year blog anniversary. It is so beautiful that you have been sharing your words – pieces of yourself – on this wonderful space for two years. I do miss your words and I am excited for your return, but I’m sure that the time away will really only make you wiser.
Happy Blogoversary!! how fun
Happy Anniversary. I hope you’re enjoying your “time.” Miss your posts but appreciate the pressure and life of its own a blog can take up. Sometimes we need to stare into the “starry sky” a bit and then return refreshed.
Wow — 2 years? Happy anniversary to you! (And, yes, we miss you.)
