What Is Your Favorite Color?

Big Girl and Middle Girl ask me one question all the time, usually when they are bent over a blank piece of paper, crayons in hand.
Mom! What’s your favorite color?
And every time they ask this, I pause. I pause because I do not have a favorite. Or, maybe more precisely, I do not know what my favorite is. I do not tell them this though. No. Instead, I give them an answer. Green, I sometimes say. I love orange. Red is great. I’ve always been a fan of blue.
They roll with it and make their beautiful masterpieces with my favorite color-du-jour and then present them to me. And I smile and tell them I love their art which I always do.
But today I’m thinking about this. How I am without a favorite. How childhood is the land of color, the planet of preferences, how as we grow older, we might just forget to ask ourselves what it is we love, what we truly love.
Big Girl’s favorite color is purple.
Middle Girl is all about pink.
What about you? Do you have a favorite color or are you uncertain and undecided like yours truly?

It has changed with the years, coulours, hues… I think that as we go along life, taste the diversity of it, we learn to love the rainbow
I love Purple because it ties itself into so many aspects of my life. My favorite college team is Purple and Gold. They like the throw the phrase “Love Purple Live Gold” out there.
But I also love Cobalt Blue. Reminds me of the sea. For a short period everyday I can dream I am at the ocean. Cheesy, I know!
Maybe we aren’t meant to love one color. Because also like you on a day to day basis I can be in love with any color but the two above really stick out.
My favorite for years and years was (is?) red. Then we had our little girl, and in my effort to avoid swathing her little world in pink, I started picking out lots of purples. And I’ve noticed my inclination to pick colors to revert to the bright pinks and purples of my childhood too.
I just like bold colors, I think. Almost any. I still officially claim my favorite color is red, but in the last year, I’ve started to wonder a little.
Cerulean – it is the most beautiful color. I think I’ve always been a fan of blue hues, but in my mid-20s I finally settled on this color as the one I absolutely love.
I don’t have a favorite color either. It’s usually a color combo, like brown and teal for awhile and now it’s grey and yellow. I supposed I could say orange is my favorite but it really depends on the orange. I guess the more we grow, the more complicated that simple answer becomes.
I think we have colors we respond to even if not one favorite. I’ve always been brown and orange. Love neutrals. I also have least favorites red and blue. When we renovated I set a firm “no red” rule.
I welcome white for all the colors it embraces… and I love white’s stream of pure yellow.
I love, love, love yellow. I always have–and I always will. Growing up, I always wanted to wear yellow clothes, but my mother wouldn’t let me because I was fair. She didn’t think it went well with my coloring. She was right, but the only piece of clothing that really mattered to me growing up was a yellow lace dress my grandmother bought me for my birthday when I was 7 or 8.I always felt so beautiful when I wore that dress. (My pudgy sallow self was not the vision of loveliness I thought I was, but so what!)
Also, I’ve been told that people whose favorite color is yellow are more apt to have mental issues. Okay, enough about yellow.
My colours are Lilac and purples – love them!
